Abstract

Surgery accidental faults in more than 20% of transpedicular screw placement have been reported recently, dysesthesia to paraplegia may cause as a result of these mistakes, many solutions were introduced to reduce the percentage of errors in these surgeries some of them are successful while other cause more risk to the patient like somatosensory evoked potentials, electromyography, surgical navigation, etc. Our study design a new probe to avoid these faults by using a force sensor to detect the difference in bone density between the cortical and cancellous bone in the pedicle region of the vertebra which will be connected to an analog to digital converter and Raspberry Pi 3 Model B+ to translate the signal and give the surgeon real-time audible, sensing and visual alarm when any perforation to pedicel wall happen.
