Comparative Study of Absorbance Value in Prepared Euphrasia Ophthalmic Suspension with a Patent Homoeopathic Ophthalmic Suspension by UV-Visible Spectrophotometer

Abstract

Background;


Ophthalmic suspensions were sterile liquid preparations utilized for instillation into the eye. Euphrasia, or eyebright,1is a herbaceous flowering plant rapported to Orobanchaceae family.Ophthalmic suspension of prepared Euphrasia was collated with the patent homoeopathic mother tincture by using UV visible spectrophotometer.2.Ultraviolet and visible (UV-Vis) absorption spectroscopy is the apparatus used for measuring the attenuation of a beam of light after passing through a sample.


When a sample is exposed to light energy that matches the energy difference between a possible electronic transitions within the molecule, a fraction of the light energy would be absorbed by the molecule and the electrons would be promoted to the higher energy state orbital. Source


Introduction


Ophthalmic suspensions are sterile liquid preparations utilised for instillation into the eye. They should be homogeneous and gentle to disperse the correct dose that enhances stability, Bioavailability and efficacy of the drug.Homoeopathy is a system of medical therapeutics fortified by Dr Samuel Hahnemann. Similia, Similibus, Curentur is the basic principle used for treating diseases.Medicines that are capable of curing symptoms are also capability to produce the same symptoms in a healthy person.


Euphrasia Officinalis mother tincture is a homeopathic remedy effectively used in curing various acute eye affections. This homeopathic mother tincture inclined by ethanolic extraction of the entire flowering plant according to homeopathic pharmacopoeias.


Methodology:


Homoeopathic Ophthalmic suspension of Euphrasia is conspired accordingto HPI i.e. (1: 9) proportion. 3 The suspension was taken in 2 glass tubes inwhich one was amalgamated with isotonic solution and other with distilled water4. Both the test tubes were stirred with preservative. Control Solution was fortified by using isotonic solution and Distilled water. All these samples absorbance was Analysed through UV-light in spectrophotometerat 200-400nm. 5

Scrutiny of the Samples In UV Spectrophotometer at 200- 400nm had evinced


 following Absorbance values.



  1. Euphrasia- Q- 2.5 nm

  2. Phenyl Mercuric Nitrate + Distilled water- 0.01%w/v- - 1.5 to 2.25 nm

  3. Patent Euphrasia Eye drop- 2.5 to 3.7 nm

  4. Euphrasia- Q + Phenyl Mercuric Nitrate + Isotonic solution- 2.25 to 3.00 nm

  5. Euphrasia-Q + Phenyl Mercuric Nitrate + Distilled water- 2.5 to 3.00 nm


Conclusion:


Results of the present study had flaunted that the absorbance value of patent  Euphrasia ophthalmic suspension was higher then the prepared Euphrasia Ophthalmic suspension.
