Abstract

Objective
We evaluated Fetuin-A, FGF-21 and lipid profiles in the serum of recovered patients from coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
Methods

This case–control study included recovered patients from COVID-19 referred to the hospitals and specialised medical clinics in Kirkuk, Iraq between (October 2021 to March 2022), and healthy controls. Fetuin-A, FGF-21 and Lipid profiles were evaluated in recovered patients who were grouped according to their sex (males and females) and then are distributed according to the age into (40-49) and (50-59), and were compared with healthy controls.

Results

A total of 140 participants were included, 100 recovered patients and 40 healthy controls. Mean of Fibroblast Growth Factor 21 (FGF-21) significant difference was observed in the Male recovered patients group than the control group and found no significant difference in the females recovered patients group. While Total cholesterol (TC), Triglycerides (TG), Low density lipoprotein (LDL), Very low density lipoprotein (VLDL) levels were higher in patients of both groups than healthy control. But, Fetuin-A levels were lower in the recovered patients from both groups compared to the healthy control group. And High density lipoprotein (HDL) levels were lower in females compared with the healthy control, non significant differences were found in the male group compared with the healthy control.

Conclusion

Fetuin-A, FGF-21 and Lipid profiles were observed in the serum of recovered patients in the interval of 2 months of the last Negative RT-PCR test . Our findings differ between recovered patients from COVID-19 compared with healthy Individuals.
